Botanical name: Magnolia grandiflora 'Monlia'. The southern magnolia is an excellent ornamental tree for the southwest. Contray to popular belief magnolia trees will thrive in the desert heat, but they do require regular watering. They can also withstand temperatures down to zero degrees fahrenheit.
All of them are evergeen and will bloom a large fragrant white flower usually in early summer.

Water Requirements: Water every day for the first 30 days, this is critical if planting in mid-summer. In the soutwest desert these trees need lots of water.
